I’m looking for a job for the first time and don’t know where to begin.

You need help in starting on your path and you definitely want to be prepared and have the right tools to tackle today’s job market. A properly crafted resume and an original cover letter that highlights your personal and working qualities is good place to begin. But let’s not rush the process. You must first meet with the information officer in our reception and referral service. She’s an expert who will be able to evaluate your needs and refer you to the right place and resources to help you on your journey. She is also the person who will make an appointment with the counsellor specialized in the path you will choose, which is a good start.

I need a resume and even a cover letter but don’t know how to go about it.

If you’ve never written a resume or a cover letter we suggest you meet with one of the three counsellors in our employment support service. In addition to helping you craft a good resume and cover letter, they’ll give you tips to make your job search easier, and help you to stand out from other candidates in the eyes of potential employers. Take advantage of their expertise, you will see your research benefit from it.

I’ve already got a resume and a cover letter. Do you have job offers I can consult?

Our documentation center is always open to those who want to do their own research. Along with the computers and daily newspapers that we put at your disposal, we have two binders in which you’ll find all the job offers we’ve received from employers in Laval and the surrounding regions. Even if you choose to go at it on your own, our counsellor is always ready to assist you. If you’re looking for a more tangible experience, it’s good to know that we periodically organize mini job fairs in our offices. All you need to do to participate is register. Participating in the job fairs also gives you the opportunity to meet local employers.

I would like to gain some work experience before making a career choice but I don’t really have any training. Can you help me?

We have a youth project called “Jeunes en action” that’s designed for young people like you. It can help you to overcome your difficulties while enabling you to live new, enriching experiences in the job market thanks to internships. That’s a brilliant way to discover the job market!

I just arrived in Quebec and need to find a job. What should I do?

If you’re between the ages of 16 and 25 and need help finding a job, you must meet with the member of our guidance service, head of “Québec pluriel”, a youth-oriented project for people in your situation. To familiarize yourself with our job market and benefit from guidance meant to facilitate your integration into the Quebec reality, drop by our CJEL offices.
